Introduction

Midnight Sun Wellness is a team of Registered Psychologists and Registered Social Workers based in Sherwood Park, offering evidence-based therapy for anxiety, trauma, depression, and a wide range of other concerns across Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Their three-year-old website had good bones and real credibility. It just wasn’t built to carry the weight of everything the practice had grown into. Every service, specialty, and credential was accurate and well-written. It was also packed into dense paragraphs and comma-separated lists that asked a lot of a visitor before they ever felt ready to book.

“I had an unmanaged website that was not getting much attention. My business was difficult for clients to find, and I had only a few clients.”

The Challenge

Conversion rate optimization gets treated like an afterthought in most web projects, something to look at once a site has been live for a while and the results aren’t quite there. In practice, it’s often the most important diagnostic tool available, because traffic numbers alone don’t tell you whether a website is working.

That gap is exactly what analytics surfaced for Midnight Sun Wellness. People were finding the site. Visits were happening at a healthy, steady rate. What wasn’t happening at the same rate was the thing that actually mattered to the practice: consultation bookings and contact form submissions. Traffic was doing its job. The site wasn’t doing its part to turn that traffic into a first conversation.

That’s the pattern conversion rate optimization exists to catch. A marketing channel can be working exactly as intended, sending real, interested visitors to a site, and still show a disappointing return, because the leak isn’t in how people are arriving. It’s in what happens after they land. Ad spend, SEO, and referrals only pay off if the page on the other end makes it easy to act. When they don’t line up, the instinct is often to spend more on the channel. The more useful move is to look at the page.

For a therapy practice, the website is often someone’s first step toward asking for help. That moment carries more hesitation than a typical purchase decision, and the old site was adding friction it didn’t need to. Services were listed as a single bulleted paragraph. Specialties ran as one long inline list, separated by commas. The hero section offered a single call to action, useful for a visitor ready to book, but a dead end for someone still deciding if this practice was the right fit. The contact form buried its submit button under a CAPTCHA and a column of empty space. Nowhere on the page did a visitor get a moment to simply look at something before reading the next paragraph.

None of this was a content problem. The substance was strong, and the traffic numbers proved people were finding it. It was an organization problem: too much asked of a visitor, all at once, right at the point where they were closest to reaching out.

The Solution

Flight Plan Marketing led a full redesign focused on one core idea: break dense content into smaller, scannable pieces, and give every visitor a next step that matches how ready they are to act.

Services became scannable steps. The six core services moved from a single bulleted paragraph into six numbered, individually clickable entries, each linking straight to that service page.

The hero gained a second, lower-commitment call to action.

Alongside “Book a Free 15-Minute Consultation,” the redesign adds “Explore our services,” which jumps down the same page. Visitors who aren’t ready to book yet keep exploring instead of leaving.

Specialties became a scannable tag grid.

What was a paragraph-style icon grid became individual pill-style tags, letting a visitor spot “anxiety” or “grief” in a glance instead of scanning a dense block.

“Our Approach” and the team bios got the same treatment.

Five dense bullet points became five individually chunked cards. Comma-separated specialty lists on each therapist’s bio became individual clickable tags.

Navigation and forms lost their friction.

Long dropdown menus gained “View all” links so visitors see a shorter list first. The contact form was tightened up, the CAPTCHA removed, and real photos of the office space added so a visitor gets a feel for the space before they’ve even booked.

The Blog and Content pages

The same principle carried through to the practice’s longer content pages and blog. The EMDR approach page, for example, restructured a wall of paragraphs into a numbered step timeline, a card grid for what EMDR can help with, and a set of related-approaches tags at the bottom for further reading.

The blog archive saw the same shift, from a plain grid of post cards into a page with a featured latest post, a filterable sidebar of categories and topics, and clear pagination.

The Impact

Nothing about what Midnight Sun Wellness offers changed. Every service, specialty, and credential on the redesigned site is the same information that was already there. What changed is how quickly a visitor can find the piece that applies to them, and how much less they have to read to get there.

That’s the piece conversion rate optimization is meant to fix: not the traffic, which was already healthy, but the gap between traffic and action. For a practice whose visitors are often making a first, vulnerable decision to reach out, that reduction in friction matters more than it would for most businesses. The site is now live on staging and rolling out, with the traffic-to-conversion relationship being monitored as it goes. The same data that flagged the original gap will show whether it’s closed.

“Since working with Flight Plan Marketing, I’ve learned about SEO, Google Ads, and the value of social media. I’ve developed a marketing strategy—something I didn’t have before. Now I have hope that my business will grow and be successful.”

Where We Go From Here

Midnight Sun Wellness didn’t need a new story. They needed a website that let their existing story reach people faster. By breaking dense content into scannable pieces and giving every visitor a next step that matched their readiness, Flight Plan Marketing helped turn a credible but demanding website into one built to convert.
